Young Ambassadors

Young Ambassadors is a national initiative, managed by the Youth Sport Trust. The aim is to promote sport, physical education and healthy living to build on the excitement of the London 2012 games.

Nominations are based upon outstanding sporting talent or excellent leadership and volunteering skills. Young Ambassadors will act as role models throughout the academic year to inspire other young people and raise the profile of the school sport.

Programme Objectives:

  • To champion sport within local communities.
  • To advocate the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement.
  • To create role models for other young people.
  • To aspire to inspire participation.

What's happening in CSW?

The CSW Sport and Coventry & Warwickshire 2012 Opportunities Co-ordinator have provided the Young Ambassadors with a training session, which covered; media interviews, event appearances and classroom based activities. We will also be arranging interviews / features on some ambassadors with local press publications and radio stations.

The Young Ambassadors were provided with information on how to get involved with local, high profile events such as; The UK School Games and The European Race Walking Cup.

The School Sport Partnerships are responsible for deploying the Young Ambassadors locally.

Some Famous Support!

“I am delighted to welcome you all and wish each of you every success as Young Ambassadors. For me, sport provides a brilliant environment for the development of young people and the next six years building up to the London 2012 Games are going to be incredible. Hosting the Games is not just about staging the greatest sporting event in the world, it’s also about creating a lasting legacy for tens of millions of people across the country. Sport has the power to inspire and having world-class facilities, which the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will bring, gives every youngster the opportunity to become the very best they can be. I was inspired throughout my sporting career by some amazing people and as young Ambassadors, you have the opportunity and the talent to help create a new breed of medal winners and sporting champions.” Dame Kelly Holmes, double Olympic Gold medallist and National School Sport Champion

“I am delighted to be supporting the Young Ambassador programme and feel incredibly excited about what the future holds for sport and culture across the country following London’s successful bid to hold the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2012. The Games will capture the imagination and help us to increase sports participation amongst young people over the next six years and beyond. The Government is determined to help all our children develop in the best way possible and you, as young Ambassadors, will play a key role in allowing us to achieve that. The conferences will have given you the skills and knowledge necessary for you to go back to your own communities and help inspire other young people to become coaches, volunteers, future medal winners and ambassadors. We take the well-being of our young people very seriously and are fully committed to using sport to help them, and our society, grow in the best way possible.” Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport.
